THE 2003 EGYPTIAN EVENT—Another Grand Success!
Once again, The Egyptian Event has hit new heights with an extended schedule and new, exciting activities such as the “Walkabout” Tour of
Barns and the Newcomer & International Welcome, held at the elegant Spindletop Hall. While other horse shows are experiencing a drop in attendance and support, the Egyptian Event is as strong as ever. The number and quality of entries at this year’s show were very encouraging and the attendance by exhibitors and spectators was significant. Thanks to each and every member. Because of your support of The Society, the Event is a continued success. As one member recently stated, “As usual, it was the (best) week of our year. The greatest reunion on earth.” It truly is a show unlike any other in the world.

TRUSTEE UPDATE
The Board of Directors recently met to revisit and update the Bylaws, and the Trustees felt it was also an excellent time to revisit the sections pertaining to Trustees. According to the Bylaws, (Article VI, Section 1) “There shall be a Board of Trustees for the purpose of providing continuity of purpose and philosophy for the Society and for such additional contributions of services as the Board of Directors may request. Only persons who have provided substantial service to The Pyramid Society will be elected as Trustees. This board will have a minimum of seven Trustees. And (Section 4), the Trustees’ term of office shall be for life or until their resignation, unless removed by a majority vote of the Board of Trustees.”

Our first realization was that we needed to become more involved AND we needed more Trustees. Quite coincidentally, the timing was right. Three very hard-working individuals had completed their terms of office as Board Members and we promptly elected them as Trustees. They are: Christie Metz, Sherry Moseley and Tom Salome. Their years of service speak for itself. We plan to further utilize their talents, and just think, we have them for life!
Secondly, we realized that some of the Trustees have served both diligently and faithfully and deserve not to have to work so hard. We felt more accolades were in order for them, and thus elevated Willis Flick, Barbara Griffith, Douglas B. Marshall Jr., and Jarrell McCracken to Trustee Emeritus.
Unlike the Board of Directors, our job is not to directly govern the Society. Instead, as outlined in the Bylaws our role is to provide “additional contributions of services as the Board of Directors may request.” Bottom line, we’re committed to special projects and areas as directed by the Board in order to create an even stronger, more effective Pyramid Society.
I look forward to seeing you soon.

Best regards,
Howell Wallace, Trustee & Past President
